A Table for Two
There is something about weddings.
The celebration of love, unity, and joy. The way they bring together family and friends. The happiness of two individuals starting a new chapter in their lives.
From the heartfelt vows to the beautiful decorations, weddings create cherished memories that last lifetimes.
Imagine the way my heart sang out with joy when my God Daughter told me she wanted me to design the Bride and Groom's sweetheart table for her wedding! This would be the beautiful table where the couple would eat their first meal as husband and wife. The symbol of their desire to nourish each other throughout their lifetimes and I got to be a part of it!
She also made this request 2 weeks before her nuptials so I had to get to work.
We found this table at a thrift store for $14.99 and as you can see it had solid bones upon which to shape our project.
It required some tender loving care.
We sanded the rough spots and
filled any pits and divots with painters putty/fine joint compound.
A thorough shellac was the last step before my creative spirit was brought to life.
My first thought turned to color, which would keep true to the wedding decor's hues.
I started with Chalky Chicks and mixed a custom color called "Charleston Green." This rich velvety color was mixed using "Starless Night," which is dark and sultry; "Tuscany," which looks creamy and buttery; and "Shamrock," which is bold and confident.
The result was a beautiful blend that I have since fallen in love with.
The secondary sage-like color was made mixing my Charleston Green and Mad Cloud from Chalky Chicks.
A simple mix of paint and water helped me create the gradient.
With the table prepped and ready for beautification, I started with the first coat.
Facebook Live allowed me to do the painting while Lauren watched and adjusted the paint job to her liking, which was a lot of fun.
This kind of gradient would have been too intimidating in the past. Only a short time ago, I was too scared to execute these types of designs and techniques. Thanks to the wonderful experience of working on Urban Legends and having the enviable opportunity to use products like Chalky Chicks my art has evolved and I'm loving where it's going.
I let the paint cure and dry for two days
And it took two more days for me to curate the appliqués to my satisfaction. What you see in the pictures are two separate appliqués, one floral, another architectural. The gold architectural applique has the name 'Wilson' on it, which was a happy discovery as it is to be their shared surname.
As the project drew to a close I felt a sense of satisfaction and pride. Now all I have to do is get it to the wedding safely.
So here's to excitement and laughter. Here's to celebration and hope. Here's to lifelong bonds and the ethereal, mind altering bliss of being in love.
Most of all, here's to my God Daughter and her soon to be partner in life and love.
Couldnt have said it better than that.
